Exploring the Mekong Delta of southern Vietnam is a true full-body experience in every sense of the term. My eyes were overwhelmed by a looming haze that covered the vibrant landscape of greens and emeralds. My skin was entirely wrapped in humidity so heavy it felt like I was swimming as I walked. After weeks of exploring, my nose still didn’t get accustomed to the mixed aroma of saturated soil and engine exhaust. My body’s senses vividly recall the details of the Mekong Delta, but my mind finds it nearly impossible to adequately describe.
Looking back through my travel journal, I realize even my entires written while I was there, all fall short of capturing the true sense of beauty from Vietnam. I am thankful to have a collection of photos that I organized into a hard-bound photo book. With the help of Blurb I was able to create a simple little square book that helps me recall and relive these memories. While photos cannot preserve the smell of steamy Pho or the smooth texture of mangrove roots, they do help me recall some of these full-body experiences from Vietnam.
